Portable Generators

What are some portable brushless generators on the market for construction use? A 2500-5000 watt range is preferred. Does Honda make any? Cheap imports?

I live in an apartment in Miami, and have a new baby.. I’m concerned with the idea of losing power (particularly A/C) during Hurricane Season.. Is there a portable generator that is small and quiet enough to put on my balcony? Is is safe to use one on a balcony?

I’m thinking most of the Carbon monoxide comes out the exhaust pipe. Why not add a longer pipe(12 ft) to extend the exhaust pipe so the exhaust can be directed outdoors away from the indoors. Also, high velocity fans can be used to blow the air away from the indoors. Two carbon monoxide detectors would be helpful. limiting the time of day and the number of hours of use might help. definitely don’t want to sleep while the generator is running.

what type of portable generator would be recommened for a band

I’m thinking about investing in the 3500watt portable contractor generator. HomeDepot had only 2 reviews, which were good, but I’d like to hear a few more people’s opinions about the brand in general.

It is a 4000watt contractor professional model#gen4000/03237. Engine is a 5hp and runs great, but it does’nt run anything in RV anymore. We thought it was maybe something else so we hooked up another generator and that ran everything just fine. I would like to fix if possible but don’t know where to start. Or if its even worth fixing. thanks

I had a buy it now price of 5.95 the actual product sells over 00 I have researched wholesalers for portable generators. on ebay you are allowed to sell wholesale list as long as the list is under the wholesale list category, well she didn’t read the auction and some how thought she would be getting the portable generator instead of what the auction clearly stated that it was a list of wholesalers, Now this lady owns a buissness and I think she was buying it for her buissness I dont think i should refund her the 5.95 all because she didnt read I have fees involed to post my wholesale list on ebay and my time tie into it now she threatening to sue me but if the auction was clear and even stated that I was selling a wholesale list not a generator, Can she sue me? it like a contract to buy what is in the auction so I dont feel she can but maybe Im wrong please help dont know how to handle this.

I bought a 2001 Leisure Travel Van in Sept (Dodge Ram Van 3500). It did not come with a generator. I’d like to take a portable generator with me camping, but am having difficulty finding a place to carry it. There is a storage space on the side accessibile from a door which is a little over 8.5" high. Haven’t seen any generators this short. I don’t want to carry it inside the coach because of the gasoline smell. I can’t carry it on the back bumper or trailer hitch rack because anything there would block rear access through the back door which also has the spare tire on it. Any ideas?

I have a portable generator. If I turn off the main breaker in the service box and also turn off each branch breaker, is it safe to plug my generator into my service box through an existing outlet? The outlet is 30amp (with neutral and ground–a four prong outlet) connnected to a 30amp double pole breaker. Then, during a power outage, I can turn on selected breakers feeding the fridge, sump pump, and other light loads. I know there are better ways, like a transfer switch. But, practcally speaking, is it safe? Any draw backs or cautions?

Looking at a 6000 watt portable generator. Trying to figure out if it will be able to run an arc welder. Looked around on the internet some at arc welders and most a variable amperage. Now I’m pretty sure volts x amps = watts so if a welder has a output range of 30 to 125 amps and seems to be able to draw on either 120 or 240 volt power does that mean that the draw range is 3600 watts to 30,000 watts, and if this is the case how much could I reasonably expect to be able to weld while limiting my self to about 6kw’s?

Assuming I could pack a portable battery charger into my yet to be purchased Nissan Leaf, would it be possible to charge said Leaf using a portable generator?

MY LOGIC IS AS FOLLOWS:
*It takes household 110V 15A outlet about 16 hours to charge the Leaf (according to their website).
*110V x 15A by my calculations equals 1,650 watts.

I know it is crazy, but indulge me: What kind of generator would produce that kind of continuous wattage?

SPECIFICALLY, when you see a generator that advertises, say, 3,300W peak, but will run maybe 16 hours on 4 gallons of gas at 50% load, what does that mean?

Does it mean that you are getting 1,650W output out of just 4 gallons of gas for 16 hours? If that is true, then it would stand to reason that those 4 gallons used to charge a 100 mile battery would equate to 25 miles a gallon. Just a mental exercise. I am not really going to do it, but I am curious.

I appreciate your answers, but some of you are missing the spirit of the question. I know 25mpg is not good. I am only viewing the generator as a once in a blue moon option, ie when you get stuck with no charging stations and do not wish to call a tow truck. It would be used maybe once or twice a year maximum. It is just a fun mental exercise, so don’t over think your answers.

I need a 5 circuit toggle switch. Where can i find one?

I’m looking to purchase a portable generator about 5,000 watts. Can
someone give me a good , reliable , and very common brand that would be easy to get parts for ( if needed ) not just engine parts but
the generator as well. I don’t really know briggs & stratton"s reputation
these days but I know I still see the older motors going even today.
I’d like to spend under $ 500.00 but really under 0.00 ideally..
Any suggestions would be appreciated. There are just so many out
there. Eastern Tool, Northern, Briggs, Troy Built etc…etc… I would be using this for my cottage apartment as well as "out on the road" for
use with an automotive battery charger, Electric impact gun, and any
type of camping needs. The higest consumer I can think of would be
a portable electric heater at 1500w… I really don’t need industrial.

situation I might need (two) 1500 watt electric heaters for my apartment plus
a light and maybe a small appliance.
In fact, I could probably get away with
a 2000 or 2500 watt generator if I use
only one heater and a light . I don’t want
a lot of noise so it looks like I should really consider the Honda engine..

Is there such a thing as a portable generator for wifi? even if you have to pay a company like sprint every month or what not. Ive heard of devices that can get wireless internet, then broadcast it wherever it is. Is this possible? has it been made? if so where can i get one??

Yes i know it needs cellular internet to work, is there anything out there using this with cellular internet connection?
